New Frankenstein Film: Casebook of Victor Frankenstein

0

Apparently, Timur Bekmambetov, the director of Wanted, is going to be directing the Casebook of Victor Frankenstein by Peter Ackroyd.

I am currently reading the Casebook of Victor Frankenstein but am not flying through it. While not as flowery and descriptive as Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, overall, I think it’s dull. I like the way Percy and Mary Shelley are included in the story, as well as other real people such as Lord Byron, but Victor Frankenstein is just as unlikable. Perhaps once I finish the book my opinion will be different but I doubt it. And since I’m not thrilled with the novel, I really question having it made into a film. I am, however, curious about the casting.

Raz Cunningham recently posted an article about Frankenstein films and why about out of the 60 films made, only a handful are decent. Is this going to be another example of a failed Frankenstein film? I fear that it will be. I remember being so excited about Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein in 1994 and being so disappointed. I refer to it as the shirtless Kenneth Branagh version.

What do you think? Do you like the Casebook of Victor Frankenstein and think that it just might be a worthwhile film about Frankenstein?
